In 1973, Roger Moore was appointed to the role of 007 for Live and Let Die (1973) and played Bond a further six times over twelve years (The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill) before being replaced by Timothy Dalton in 1987 for the part as Bond. Timothy Dalton appeared in two Bond films (The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill).

After a six-year hiatus (1989-1995), Irish actor Pierce Brosnan was cast as Bond in GoldenEye, released in 1995; he remained in the role for a total of four films, before leaving in 2002 (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day).
